Thought of the day

Image
We went sailing in the storm And it was harder than we dreamed But I believe that's what the promise is for To lose your life for another I've heard Is a good place to begin So when I lose my way, find me When I loose love's chains, bind me At the end of all my faith, till the end of all my days When I forget my name, remind me 'Cause we bear the light of the Son of Man So there's nothing left to fear So I'll walk with you in the shadowlands Till the shadows disappear

From a Soldier in the Vietnam war

Image
Lord God I have never spoken to you, But now I want to say how do you do, You see God they told me you don't exist, And like a fool I believed all this, Last night from a shell-hole I saw your sky, I figured right then they had told me a lie, Had I taken time to see the things you made, I'd have known they weren't calling a spade a spade, I wonder God if you'll take my hand, Somehow I fell that you'll understand, Funny I had to come to this hellish place, Before I had time to see your face, Well I guess there isn't much more to say, But I'm sure glad God that I met you today, I guess zero hour will soon be here, But I'm not afraid since I know you're near, The signal - Well God I'll have to go, I like you lots I want you to know, Look how this would be a horrible fight, Who knows I may come to your house tonight, Though I wasn't friendly to you before, I wonder God if you'd wait at your door, Look I'm crying I'm shedding tears...

Poem of the week

First dentistry was painless; Then bicycles were chainless And carriages were horseless And many laws, enforceless. Next, cookery was fireless, Telegraphy was wireless, Cigars were nicotineless And coffee, caffeineless. Soon oranges were seedless, The putting green was weedless, The college boy hatless, The proper diet, fatless, Now motor roads are dustless, The latest steel is rustless, Our tennis courts are sodless, Our new religions, godless. - Arthur Guiterman

C. S. Lewis

Image
"A perfect man would never act from a sense of duty; he’d always want the right thing more than the wrong one. Duty is only a substitute for love (of God and of other people) like a crutch which is a substitute for a leg. Most of us need the crutch at times; but of course it is idiotic to use the crutch when our own legs (our own loves, tastes, habits etc.) can do the journey on their own." ( Letters of C. S. Lewis /1966, p. 277)

Quote of the day

Image
"One cannot see well except with the heart, The essential is invisible to the eyes. It is the time you have spent with your rose that makes your rose so important" "That is the hardest thing of all. It is much harder to judge yourself than to judge others. If you succeed in judging yourself, it's because you're truly a wise man." "Language is the source of misunderstandings." "You risk tears if you let yourself be tamed. " "People where you live," the little prince said, "grow five thousand roses in one garden... yet they don't find what they're looking for..." "You're lovely, but you're empty," he went on. "One couldn't die for you. Of course an ordinary passerby would think my rose looked just like you. But my rose, all on her own, is more important than you altogether, since she's the one I've watered. Since she's the one I put under glass. Since she's the one I she...

The secret to success is to be like a duck: smooth and unruffled on the top, but paddling furiously underneath. We tend to use people and love things when we should be loving people and use things Everybody's friend is nobody The best mirror is an old friend A true friend is someone who thinks you are a good egg even though they know you are slightly cracked A real friend is one who walks in when the world walks out Friends are gods way of apologizing for our families

Dylan Dylan Contest- Dangerous minds

I will not go down under the ground 'Cause somebody tells me that death's coming 'round And I will not carry myself down to die When I go to my grave, my head will be high ~Bob Dylan Do not go gentle into that good night Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless me now with your fierce t...

Quotes by Albert Einstein

Try not to be a man of success but rather try to become a man of value. Before God we are all equally wise - and equally foolish. Gravitation cannot be held responsible for people falling in love. How on earth can you explain in terms of chemistry and physics so important a biological phenomenon as first love? Put your hand on a stove for a minute and it seems like an hour. Sit with that special girl for an hour and it seems like a minute. That's relativity. I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones. I never teach my pupils. I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn. If you are out to describe the truth, leave elegance to the tailor. Imagination is more important than knowledge... It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education. Laws alone can not secure freedom of expression; in order that every man present his views without penalty there must be spirit of tolerance in the en...

All sunshine and no rain make a Desert

Image
I read an interesting quote "All sunshine and no rain make a Desert" At first glance really not very interesting but it applied rather deeply to life. There has to be some pain and hard times because these are part of love, marriage and commitment. All sunshine and no rain make a Desert. It is through some of the hard times that people/couples grow closer and character develops.

Who Will Answer by Ed Ames

Image
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!, Hallelujah! From the canyons of the mind, We wander on and stumble blindly Through the often-tangled maze Of starless nights and sunless days, While asking for some kind of clue Or road to lead us to the truth, But who will answer? Side by side two people stand, Together vowing, hand-in-hand That love's imbedded in their hearts, But soon an empty feeling starts To overwhelm their hollow lives, And when they seek the hows and whys, Who will answer? On a strange and distant hill, A young man's lying very still. His arms will never hold his child, Because a bullet running wild Has struck him down. And now we cry, "Dear God, Oh, why, oh, why?" But who will answer? High upon a lonely ledge, a figure teeters near the edge, And jeering crowds collect below To egg him on with, "Go, man, go!" But who will ask what led him To his private day of doom, And who will answer? (Chorus) If the soul is da...

The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips. Then walk out the door and deny him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable. ~Dc talk ~Brennan Manning [Be] daring enough to be different, humble enough to make mistakes, wild enough to be burnt in the fire of love, real enough to make others see how phony [you] are. To be alive is to be broken; to be broken is to stand in need of grace. To live by grace means to acknowledge my whole life story, the light side and the dark. In admitting my shadow side I learn who I am and what God's grace means. As Thomas Merton put it, 'A saint is not someone who is good but who experiences the goodness of God.' The dominant characteristic of an authentic spiritual life is the gratitude that flows from trust—not only for all the gifts that I receive from God, but gratitude for all the suffering. ...suffering has often been the shortest path to...

Society

Image
Oh it's a mystery to me. We have a greed, with which we have agreed... and you think you have to want more than you need... until you have it all, you won't be free. Society, you're a crazy breed. I hope you're not lonely, without me. When you want more than you have, you think you need... and when you think more then you want, your thoughts begin to bleed. I think I need to find a bigger place... cause when you have more than you think, you need more space. Society, you're a crazy breed. I hope you're not lonely, without me. Society, crazy indeed... I hope you're not lonely, without me. There's those thinkin' more or less, less is more, but if less is more, how you keepin' score? It means for every point you make, your level drops. Kinda like you're startin' from the top... and you can't do that. Society, you're a crazy breed. I hope you're not lonely, without me. Society, crazy indeed... I hope you're not lon...

THERE IS A PLEASURE IN THE PATHLESS WOODS

Image
by Lord Byron, (George Gordon) There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more, From these our interviews, in which I steal From all I may be, or have been before, To mingle with the Universe, and feel What I can ne’er express, yet cannot all conceal .

If

Image
"If" by: Rudyard Kipling If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or, being hated, don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise; If you can dream -- and not make dreams your master; If you can think -- and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with triumph and disaster And treat those two imposters just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to broken, And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools; If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breath a word about your loss; If you can force yo...

Bitterness has plagued my heart, many times before, My life has been a broken glass, that I have kept restored, of all my shattered dreams, and though it seemed, that I was far too gone, my brokenness helped me to see, it's grace I'm standing on. I will stumble, I will fall down But I will not be moved I will make mistakes, I will face heartache, But I will not be moved And chaos in my life, has been a badge of war, and though I have been torn, I will not be moved I have been a wayward child, I have acted out, I have questioned sovereignty, and had my share of doubts, And though sometimes, my prayers feel like the mountain of the sky, the hand that holds won't let me go, and is the reason why On Christ the solid rock I stand, All other ground is sinking sand, I will not be moved

Quote of the day

Image
It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad. --C. S. Lewis

Thought of the day

Image
People say its the journey not the destination that matters. I think its a bit of both. But I especially think that sometimes when you reach the destination the journey good or bad is totally forgotten and no longer matters.
